~~~> Welcome to Ice Poetry, Chris Lawrence's photography site of ice and light.~ "Every object contains a spark of the divine spirit~ My path is to live life, and as best I can, learn to experience that magic. Photography is a vehicle to communicate that light as I see it. Reaching beyond my limits in this search brings me one step closer to nature."
~~~>Chris Lawrence has been a photographer for 15 years and has always been drawn to landscape and nature photography. Most of the fascination comes from natural phenomenon of light and the elements. In this series of images, Lawrence uses the natural phenomenon of ice formation and the components of light i.e. absorption, refraction, diffraction and color in a study. The study found that ice refracted light into colors and produced different imagery based on the amount of ice growth, depth of field, melting techniques and special lighting. No ice formations were ever the same producing completely random foregrounds and backgrounds. Many images appear to have effects or painted qualities while all images have no editing or effects. All photographs were shot with a medium format Pentax 6x7 camera using Provia slide film~

~~~>An original ice study started while living in an apartment building for 10 years. Randomly ice crystals would grow every day in the winter windows. Magical forms,shapes, and landscapes evolved capturing the light- The crystals grew in tiny tiny sizes to some that were 6-10 inches in size creating other worlds~
~~~> A second study evolved... by freezing flowers in ice with different lighting techniques. This is the results of the last six months beginning in Feb. 2004. Please come back as the site is being updated weekly~
